Title:  Challenges and Successes: New Chinese Teachers Speak
Presenters:  Frank Lixing Tang, Ph.D, and Robin Harvey, NYU Project DCLT
Five new teachers from K-12 schools

Abstract:
New teachers face a myriad of challenges. New Chinese teachers are often the only Chinese teacher in their school, and sometimes the only foreign language teacher in their school.  Administrators, teacher trainers and teachers themselves can all learn from the experiences of new teachers.

In this panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Frank Tang and Robin Harvey, five new K-12 teachers share the struggles, challenges and successes they face in their first years of teaching Chinese in New York schools.   They will speak about dealings with students, administration, parents, preparing curriculum and lesson plans and daily teaching.  They will share ideas about support and assistance which would be of help to them in their early years of teaching.

Names of teachers will be advised upon acceptance of the proposal.
